A common safety feature kept firefighters from saving six people in a tragic house fire. Witnesses said they could hear children screaming inside the southeast Oklahoma City home at about 11 o'clock this morning.
Neighbors first tried to get to the victims, then firefighters but they say "burglar bars" designed to keep thieves out, kept rescuers out until it was too late. Neighbors say they're forever haunted by the screams of those children trapped inside.
Gerald McKensie Witness “I was telling them come on baby I got this window open. I tried to go in but I couldn’t handle the smoke. I just kept hearing them voices man. I just tried to save them you know. I just tried man.
No word yet on the victims' names or ages. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
