MESQUITE, Texas (AP) -- A 12-year-old Texas girl who'd been missing for nearly two weeks was found safe Wednesday in Oklahoma City -- after her stepfather shot himself.
28-year-old James Roy Hudacheck died Wednesday afternoon at an Oklahoma City hospital.
Authorities say Jami Hicks of Mesquite wasn't hurt.
Hudachek -- who recently professed romantic love for Jami -- called the girl's mother shortly after midnight and told her to come pick up the child.
When officers approached Hudachek's motel room, they heard a gunshot.
The girl has been taken into Child Protective Services custody.
Also Wednesday, CPS took her twin 9-year-old half brothers into emergency custody.
CPS claims their mother -- Angela Hudachek -- didn't do enough to protect the children.
Jami's father, Sanford Hicks, wants custody of the girl.
A custody hearing is September 23rd.
