ELK CITY, Okla. (AP) _ Scientists are trying to determine whether two people in Beckham County were attacked by Africanized bees.

Dorothy Jarnagin and a friend were sent to the hospital August 31st after a lawn mower stirred up a hive of bees at her home near Sayre.

Two people were hospitalized in Beckham County after being attacked by bees, including one person who was stung more than 50 times.

Oklahoma State University scientists say the bees may have been Africanized, or ``killer bees.''

If so, that would be the furthest north of any bee attack yet.

In late August, a swarm of bees attacked a crew of workers in Tillman County, in far southwest Oklahoma.

A state inspector has taken samples of the bees.

Official say there was another attack earlier in Stephens County, but no bee samples were obtained.
