OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals judge has decided to retire.

Judge Reta M. Strubhar, the first woman named to the appeals court, will retire Nov. 1.

Strubhar, 61, submitted her retirement letter to Gov. Brad Henry this week.

Strubhar served as an associate district judge in Canadian County from 1983 until 1993, when she was appointed to the position by former Gov. David Walters.

She has was as assistant district attorney and assistant attorney general.

Strubhar has asked for active retirement status to continue serving the court system.

She has law degree, a bachelor's degree in business education and a master's degree in English.
