CHICKASHA, Okla. (AP) -- The vendor stands offering fresh fruits and vegetables along state Highway 81 are being forced to move.
Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation visited with vendors from Chickasha to Marlow Monday and asked them to leave.
ODOT spokeswowamn Brenda Perry says the stands pose a safety threat and have led to a number of problems in recent years.
State Representative Joe Dorman of Rush Springs and state Senator Daisy Lawler of Comanche say they are working to find a solution.
Dorman says vendors who do not relocate will be given 10 days to move. If the vendors still don't comply, he says they will be fined.
The two lawmakers say they plan to introduce legislation to allow vendors to obtain a permit for the stands.
