OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The annual rush of students applying for permits or driver's licenses is making for long lines at Public Safety Department offices, and some people are disappointed when they reach the front of those lines.

"We've heard complaints from many who waited a long time in line, only to find out they didn't have the necessary paperwork to get their license," said Karen Gentry, director of the driver's license examining division. "Then, they have to come back and go through it again."

All applicants are required to show primary and secondary identification documents, which must be originals or certified. Applicants can also check the Oklahoma Driver's Manual or go to the Public Safety Department's Web site: www.dps.state.ok.us. Manuals can also be found at testing sites, libraries and tag agencies.

Early arrival is the best way to accomplish the testing process in a timely manner, Gentry said. Many stations are open at 7 a.m., four days a week.

Photocopies of documents are not accepted. Applicants born outside the United States must provide a birth certificate of birth aboard or immigration documents verifying legal presence.
