(Sulphur Springs, Texas-AP) -- Ten chickens and four ducks that tested positive for avian influenza have been killed about 64 miles south of Hugo in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
The small flock tested positive for the same strain of influenza that led to 48-thousand birds being killed last month. This second set of birds had tested negative two weeks ago. The second round of test results came back Tuesday.
Texas animal health officials say the bird flu strains that have appeared in the United States are not fatal to humans.
The illness is usually transmitted from bird to bird through respiratory discharge.
Bird flu has been detected in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey this year.
