The City of Sapulpa has approved a plan to annex a shopping center. The land pulled into Sapulpa is about 200 acres that include the Town West Shopping Center at 49th West Avenue.
The area includes several low priced motels, discount stores, a truck stop and restaurants.
Many of the business owners there opposed the annexation. They argued their case before the city council Tuesday night. They say the higher city taxes will hurt business and not help with extra services. But the council voted for the annexation which takes effect in a few days.
The annexation will boost the sales tax rate from the current 5.5% to 9.5%, but that won't change until the fall.
