(Stillwater-AP) -- Oklahoma State has formally announced that Sean Sutton will succeed his father, Eddie Sutton, as OSU head basketball coach when Eddie Sutton decides to retire.

Sean Sutton says he's prepared his entire life for this moment and will do his best to make it work.

It's uncertain when Eddie Sutton might retire, but Sean Sutton says he wants his father to coach for as long as he wants.

Eddie Sutton has said he'd like to reach 800 career wins and he needs 45 more to get there, meaning at least two more seasons.

Athletic director Harry Birdwell says it's important for the Cowboys to lock up Sean Sutton so he doesn't get away. Birdwell also says this will end negative recruiting against OSU.
