A man convicted of killing a 21-month-old girl by beating and shaking her has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Kurt Vomberg Junior pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and child abuse charges in the death of Skyla Brooks. Authorities say the toddler had bruises and bite marks on her when she arrived at the hospital.

Vomberg claimed the girl choked on a piece of meat and he shook her to revive her. He also admitted biting her to teach her a lesson about biting others.
