19 people face criminal charges after a child prostitution ring is broken up. US Attorney Robert McCampbell in Oklahoma City says pimps allegedly took girls as young as 13 from Oklahoma to cities in Texas, Florida, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Arkansas for prostitution.
McCampbell says much of the prostitution took place at truck stops in and around Oklahoma City. “The pimps were willing to take underage girls out to be sexually exploited so the pimps could get the money received. The pimps controlled these girls through violence threats and intimidation.â€
Nine people are named in the federal indictments; we know seven of them are in custody. Ten people have been charged with state crimes, of those, three are in the Oklahoma County jail.
Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane says the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
