(Kansas City, Missouri-AP) -- Jazz violinist and Oklahoma native Claude ``Fiddler'' Williams has died in Kansas City, Missouri, at age 96.

Williams died early yesterday at a Kansas City hospital. His wife says he'd been hospitalized since April fifth with double pneumonia.

Williams was born in Muskogee and played the guitar, mandolin and bass as well as the violin. He first went to Kansas City in 1928 and later played with Count Basie.

He was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in the early 1990s.
