New numbers are out about the academic performance of Oklahoma schools. One small Tulsa charter school is leading the pack.
The Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences has only been in business for three years. But it's got the highest score among Tulsa public high schools on the state's academic performance index. The academic performance index, or API, is based mostly on test scores and other factors like attendance and dropout rates.
The Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences scored 1,304 on the index, more than 200 points above the state average. Teachers attribute their success to their small size. They only enroll about 235 students and the student teacher ratio is about 16 to 1.
TSAS teacher Pat Lubas: “its working for us and we're excited about that and I think it can work for other people I don’t think we're in competition I think we're just offering an alternative its another rack to choose from when you go into the store."
Teachers and staff call the Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences one of the city's best kept secrets.
