The next chapter for Tulsa's central library could involve a move - to the south side of downtown.
The library commission Monday chose a new location downtown at 11th and Denver - just off the Inner Dispersal Loop. It's part of a bigger plan to redevelop several blocks for shopping and living space - with the library as the anchor tenant.
The land is worth about $2 million, but the owners, the Schusterman family, plans to donate it to the city. Paul Wilson, 21st Properties: "They felt like this was a great use, something that the citizens of Tulsa could utilize, young and old, rich and poor."
The library commission plans to call a vote on the bond issue to pay for the building and other project - an estimated $80 million package on the ballot sometime next spring.
