Claremore residents also head to the polls Tuesday, but a baffling ballot has some wondering what they're voting on.
The state has some strict requirements about how ballots are worded and in this case it's confusing voters. Simply put, the city wants to extend an existing one-penny sales tax to build a new wastewater treatment plant.
Claremore mayor Jim Cochran says Tuesday's vote is critical. “An ever-increasing demand for new housing, for new apartments, certainly a lot of new retail business moving to our community, so we're experiencing some outstanding growth."
This would be an extension of an "existing" tax, so officials stress that taxes and sewer rates will "not" be going up.
