Struggling Great Plains Airlines will continue charter service under US Bankruptcy protection.

The airline filed for protection on Friday. It’s cancelled all of its scheduled flights and laid off most of its 150 employees. The airline was funded with public financing three years ago.

State and local leaders had hoped to fill a void of nonstop flights between Tulsa and business centers on the East and West coasts.

Great Plains has never made a profit in its three years of operation.
