(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Governor Brad Henry today named Doctor Joseph Alexander the cabinet secretary for science and technology.

Alexander was president of Oklahoma State University's Education, Research and Economic Development Foundation.

He will now help oversee Oklahoma's research and education efforts involving science and technology.

Alexander will also work with the secretary of commerce and tourism and other state officials on economic development.

The 57-year-old was once Oklahoma State's dean of the college of veterinary medicine, vice president for research and external relations and director of external and legislative affairs.
