(Ada-AP) -- Dennis Darnell has resigned as head football coach at East Central University.

He will become offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Southwest Missouri State.

Darnell was named Lone Star Conference Coach of the year when his team had a six-and-four season in 2001. He has a 21-and-32 record from his five years at East Central.

University President Doctor Bill Cole says East Central is disappointed to see Darnell go but is happy to see him and his family take a step forward.
