(Stilwell-AP) -- A 14-year-old Adair County boy remains in stable condition at a Tulsa hospital after being accidentally shot by his father on New Year's Day.
Sheriff Charles Hartshorne says the investigation is ongoing, but it appears the shooting was an accident.
The shooting reportedly happened after midnight in the front yard of Benito Rivera's home.
Rivera was shooting his gun into the air when it jammed.
Rivera turned away from where everyone was standing and tried to fix the pistol.
When he did, a bullet went into the chamber, and the weapon fired just as his son came around the corner of the home.
The bullet struck the boy in the upper right chest.
