Devol - A slain Oklahoma state trooper reportedly may have confronted his killer after checking a report of someone lying across the front seats of a car.
The Lawton Constitution reports the car was stopped alongside a road near here Devol, Oklahoma, about 20 miles north of Wichita Falls, Texas.
The newspaper reports a passing motorist noticed the individual and items strewn about the vehicle. So she stopped at Trooper Nikky Green's nearby house and told him what she saw. The trooper went to check the report. A Cotton County sheriff's deputy sent to look for Green found him dead near his Oklahoma Highway Patrol car, about 30 minutes after his last contact Friday.
The F-B-I has joined in the investigation.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol this afternoon released more information about the suspect in the shooting death. The highway patrol has asked all Oklahoma and Texas law enforcement agencies to be on the look out for a suspect driving a white 1989 Geo Spectrum with Oklahoma tags, SVX697. Anyone with information should call the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation tip line at 800 522 8017.
Troopers from Oklahoma and Texas are monitoring traffic on Interstate 40 and U-S Highway 70. The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation says there have been reports of sightings of the suspect, but nothing substantial.
Green was an ordained minister, a husband and a father of three young daughters.
