(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The University of Oklahoma is short on tickets for this year's OU-Texas contest.

OU gets fewer than 36,000 tickets to the annual Red River shoot-out, and there are more than 71,000 season ticket holders vying for those seats.

The addition of seating in the university's stadium has made the competition for the tickets even fiercer.

The stadium's east side decks gained 8,100 seats this fall. Most of those seats require donations that give the new ticket holders the right to buy OU-Texas tickets.

The result is that fewer long-time season ticket holders are getting access to the tickets.

Associate Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt says athletic officials have worked hard to establish a balance between their many donors and those who have been loyal fans for many years.
