The Peoria Tribe is getting into the gaming business. Chief John Froman says the 3,000-member tribe plans to build a $5-million casino on the west side of Interstate 44 north of the Miami exit.

Froman says as a travel destination, the casino will go hand-in-hand with the tribe's Peoria Ridge Golf Course about three miles away. Golf Digest named the 18-hole course in 2000 as one of the nation’s best public golf courses.

The 50,000-square-foot gaming center should be open for business in a year.
