In Oklahoma, a Sperry family remembers 9-11, as the day their child died in the attacks.

It was a tough day for the Moss family in Sperry. News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan visited with them.

Navy Petty Officer Brian Moss died in the attack on the Pentagon. For his family in Sperry, the passage of time hasn't made it much easier. Pat Moss: "Even after 2 years, and it doesn't seem like 2 years, it seems like yesterday." Pat and Billy Moss can't forget 9-11, or their son, Petty Officer Brian Moss, Chief of Naval Telecommunications. His mother still cries every day.

Pat Moss: "You know 2 things happened to us that day, the most powerful was that we lost our son, the second was the attack on the United States.” The Moss family has Brian's posthumous Purple Heart. They've lined their living room walls with his medals. They've kept in their hearts every moment.

Billy Moss: "He said I know I've done some things in the Navy to excel, that doesn't matter, what I want is for you to be proud of me. When he told me that, it just melted my heart. He was more concerned about what his mother and dad thought of him, that what he was doing for himself.”

Brian died at the Pentagon. He was buried nearby at Arlington National Cemetery, where his parents visit when they can. He's a local hero in Sperry, where the community memorialized him, where they've raised thousands of dollars for a scholarship in his name.

Pat Moss: They've helped us through, a lot when we didn't think we could make it, they've made us honored, by honoring Brian.”

One of Brian's favorite tricks was to surprise his mother by coming home unannounced. She'd love to hear that knock on the door again, and take down the Gold Star that shows she's a military mom who gave all she had.

Two years have passed, but the memory is still fresh and it hurts.
