A case of West Nile virus discovered in a blood donation. The Oklahoma Blood Institute reported the positive result Tuesday morning.

The OBI started testing units of donated blood in July. This first positive result came in a patient who reported no symptoms of the illness. The blood donor was told of the finding.

The Oklahoma Blood Institute, citing patient confidentiality, would not release the hometown of the patient, or the location where the blood was donated.

The first human case of the year in Oklahoma was reported in Tulsa County last week.
