(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A prominent House Democrat is suggesting that Governor Brad Henry convene a special session to repeal a law that accelerated collection of state sales taxes.
State Representative Clay Pope of Loyal says repealing the law -- which generated $14-million to help balance the current state budget -- would reduce a burden on small business.
Pope is chairman of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee.
The change was part of a bipartisan agreement and called for businesses owing $2,500 in monthly sales taxes to remit the money electronically twice a month.
Another change in the law reduces the percentage of tax which is retained by sales tax vendors for timely filing if the vendor doesn't file electronically.
Pope says lawmakers should consider repealing the law because the state's financial picture is starting to stabilize.
