A Sapulpa man has been sentenced to life in prison for spitting on a police officer. In May a jury recommended the sentence.

Now a judge has upheld it for 35-year-old John Marquez. He was convicted of hurling bodily fluids on a Sapulpa Police officer after he was arrested during a domestic disturbance.

Prosecutors argued Marquez had prior felony convictions, which made him a threat to the community. The defense says Marquez was drunk at the time and is now remorseful. They say they will appeal the sentence.
