After months of false starts, the Oklahoma Aquarium opened to the public today.
News on 6 reporter Rick Wells got a sneak peek inside the new Aquarium Tuesday. We tagged along with a bunch of third graders from Eliot Elementary School. If their reaction is any indication this thing is a hit. Of course the ohhh ahhh spot is the shark tank, 500,000 gallons of water with seven sharks swimming over and all around you.
The most colorful exhibit is the choral reef with all the beautiful fish from the Caribbean. Once a day someone climbs into the 65,000 gallons of water to hand feed them. Aquarium vet Dr Toby Lowry, "We have alot of fish that like to hide out. We've made it like a natural habitat so they have lots of hidey holes that they'll set up territory in so we go down and feed those animal that wouldn't normally come to the surface to feed.â€
The Aquarium opened at 10 AM, then 10 to 6 everyday except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Discount prices are in effect now until June 28th
