(Miami-AP) -- Junior Seau is no longer a San Diego Charger. The 34-year-old linebacker joined the Miami Dolphins Wednesday after passing a physical examination.
The trade deal with the Dolphins will give San Diego a pick in the 2004 draft.
Seau, who grew up in Oceanside, California, had until now spent his entire 13-year career with the Chargers. But the team agreed last month to allow Seau to seek a trade.
He flew to Miami Tuesday after agreeing to restructure his contract to address a two-point-seven (M)-million-dollar bonus he had been due to receive from the Chargers.
Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt praised Seau's passion, talent and professionalism as he introduced the 12-time Pro Bowl selection to reporters in Florida.
Wannstedt called it a ``great day for the Dolphins.''
Seau paid tribute to Chargers general manager John Butler, who died last week of cancer. And offered thanks to the city of San Diego.
The Chargers will play Miami on October 27th at Qualcomm Stadium.
