HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- The New York Jets signed unrestricted free agent Doug Brien on Friday to replace kicker John Hall, who signed with the Washington Redskins.

Brien began last season with the Minnesota Vikings but was released in October. He entered the league in 1994 and tied a Super Bowl record that year when he made all seven extra points he attempted in San Francisco's 49-26 victory over San Diego.

Brien also set 49ers records that season for extra points made (60) and attempted (62).

Brien has played nine years in the NFL with five teams.
