(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Motorists are paying a lot more at the pump but average gas prices in Oklahoma are still 16.6 cents below the all-time high recorded in 2000.
AAA says the average price of self-serve regular gasoline in Oklahoma was $1.56 Tuesday. That compares with $1.73 on June 21st, 2000.
Average gas prices have gone up 13.1 cents nationwide since mid-February to $1.70 per gallon, less than 2 cents away from setting a new record.
AAA attributes the rise in prices this year to recent cold weather, low inventories of gasoline, high crude oil prices and concern about a possible war with Iraq.
