A Tulsa man is dead after he was run over while trying to cross Interstate 44 late Tuesday night.

Just before the accident, Tulsa Police called to check out a drunken person staggering around I-44 near Lewis. Before officers got there, the man had been run over.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Patrick Mays, â€œthe subject who hit the pedestrian saw them staggering across the roadway, took evasive action but was unable to avoid striking him.â€

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released. No one else was hurt.
