The Jenks School District is dire straits, next year's budget cuts may cost some their jobs.
School officials are holding a series of meetings asking the public where to cut $2-million next year. Jenks Schools are bracing themselves for even bigger cuts in state funding. With 92% of spending going to personnel, layoffs are likely.
Steve Costa with the Jenks School District, "well we have looked at service areas and different ways to decrease but when you're only talking about 8 percent of your budget there's only so much you can cut there in services and supplies so we're probably gonna have to look at personnel." Jenks teacher, Christy Morrow, "I'm really concerned because we have lost so many things we're having to cut to the bone."
There are three more meetings scheduled to offer suggestions. There's one Thursday night at 7 PM, with the others on February 4th and 10th. Call Jenks Public Schools for times and locations.
