The Director of Tulsa's Philbrook Museum of Art is packing up her office and saying good-bye to nearly 40 years of memories.
Marcia Manhart is retiring on her 60th birthday next Tuesday. Friends gathered Thursday for the first in a series of farewell receptions in her honor. Manhart joined Philbrook as a teacher in 1962 and served as education director before being named museum director in 1982.
Manhart says she's reflecting on the privilege of spending more than half her life in an extraordinary place. “And thinking a lot about Waite Phillips and his vision and his dream, and making sure that the intent of the donor and his generosity has really been fulfilled."
The nationwide search for Manhart's successor continues. Her departure leaves both Gilcrease and Philbrook Museums without permanent directors.
