You may want to find the instructions on how to re-program you VCR and your remote. Some of your favorites TV channels may be moving.
News on Six reporter Rick Wells explains the changes on Cox Cable. There are about a dozen changes in the line-up, all of them taking affect this week, and all of them the result of a $100-million upgrade of cable television in Tulsa.
Here we go again, the Cox Cable line up is changing, not all of it, and the company says we're better for it. John Bowen: "We are now delivering more things in digital, more things in Dolby sound. We're delivering high definition, which will come later in the year, subscription video on demand. All of that is possible because the upgrade is completed.
The fiber optic lines are all in, it's taken at least ten years TCI started it in the early 90's. Cox took it over in 2000, now they're done. With the project completion come the changes here they are. NBC goes from 2 to 9. PAX goes from 3 to 4. WGN goes from 4 to 13. Cox goes from 9 to 3. WTBS goes from 13 to 47. AMC from 35 to 48. FX from 48 to 35. And QVC and STARZ no longer will be broadcast in two locations. "It has nothing to do with another network, we had to get into contract compliance."
You see lot of these programming providers have provisions in their contracts, specifying where in the cable line up they have to be, like not next to the sports channel or next to a particular movie channel. They could tell me the changes will happen at 4 AM Wednesday.
Couple of other things. The upgrade means the major networks like CBS are being broadcast in digital, which means a clearer picture even if you're not on digital cable. We're all getting a brochure in the mail explaining the changes in more detail.
And most importantly, Channel 6, we're not moving anywhere.
