Payne County voters approved upgrades to 911 emergency service in an election on Tuesday.
The Payne County election saw 2,748 (66.9 percent) voting in favor of and 1,357 (33.1 percent) voting against a proposal to create a way of tracking the location of cellular phones that make 911 calls. The system would be funded through a 50-cent monthly fee on cell phone service.
A second proposition was for an increase of up to 7 percent on basic phone service to establish 911 service throughout the county on land-line phones. That proposal passed 930 (63.6 percent) to 532 (36.4 percent).
