KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) _ A special operations forces member was killed and another serviceman was wounded Thursday when a land mine exploded during a training mission near the U.S. base here.

The special operations forces member, whose name was being held until the next of kin is notified, stepped on a mine, said Gunnery Sgt. Charles Portman at U.S. Central Command.

The other serviceman's wound was not considered life-threatening.

The accident happened at 8:30 a.m.
