DENVER (AP) _ The Denver Broncos have signed free-agent safety Izell Reese to a one-year, $550,000 contract.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Reese has a chance to start for Denver, an opportunity that was limited with the Dallas Cowboys.
``As he looked out on the horizon, Denver looked like a good spot for him to be,'' said Reese's agent, Pat Dye Jr., who confirmed the deal.
Because safety Eric Brown is an unrestricted free agent and the Broncos are considering a move of Deltha O'Neal or Willie Middlebrooks from cornerback to safety, Reese could win a starting job.
His one-year contract will count only $450,000 against the Broncos' salary cap.
During four seasons with the Cowboys, Reese started 15 games, including four last season.
The Broncos were impressed with the way Reese played against Denver on Thanksgiving. Broncos defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes was familiar with Reese from having coached in the NFC East.
Earlier this week, former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Terry Killens agreed with Denver on a seven-year contract that included a signing bonus of more than $250,000.
