Kmart has announced Friday its closing 284 stores in 40 states. One of those stores is right here in Tulsa.
The Kmart Supercenter at 71st & Memorial is one of the 7 Oklahoma stores closing its doors. The closing means the loss of some 60 jobs locally - 500 statewide.
A spokesperson for Kmart says the decision to close was based on under performing stores not meeting financial requirements. The stores will remain open for 60 to 90 days or until the stock depletes.
Kmart's the third largest retailer after Wal-Mart and Target.
