(DALLAS) - Dallas center Mike Modano injured his right knee and left Sunday's game against the San Jose Sharks.

Stars officials said their scoring leader was being evaluated and would not return to the game. Modano did not put any pressure on his right leg while being helped off the ice.

Modano played for the U.S. team that won the silver medal at the Salt Lake City Olympics.

He was hurt three minutes into the second period. He was flipped after taking an open-ice check from Sharks winger Alexander Korolyuk while skating toward the net with the puck.

Modano has 31 goals, the first player in franchise history with nine 30-goal seasons.

He scored a short-handed goal, his franchise-record 25th, in Saturday's 2-1 win at Colorado. On Thursday, he scored with one second left in overtime to give the Stars a 4-3 win at Vancouver.
