Local motorist injured in I-44 traffic accident

An unusual accident sent one person to the hospital early Monday. It happened around 1:30 AM and actually started as a fire call. <br><br>Officials say a Jeep parked along the shoulder of I-44 was burning.

An unusual accident sent one person to the hospital early Monday. It happened around 1:30 AM and actually started as a fire call.

Officials say a Jeep parked along the shoulder of I-44 was burning. A passing motorist in a mini-van slowed down to report the fire on his cell phone. As he made the call, another man slammed into the van. Fire crews were quickly on the scene and put out the fire.

The driver of the car suffered a broken leg. No one else was hurt.
