OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Oklahoma dropped to below $1 this week for the first time in nearly two years.

Oklahomans were paying 99.7 cents per gallon on average Wednesday, said AAA Oklahoma.

Gasoline prices have dropped steadily since the $1.604 average on Sept. 14. The highest state average this year was $1.62 on May 29.

Oklahoma has the third lowest gasoline price average in the country, higher only than Georgia and South Carolina.

The statewide average has not been below $1 per gallon since March 1999, AAA Oklahoma said.
