Miles of inactive rail line in North Tulsa will be turned into a scenic recreational trail. The trail will run from 56th Street North to the Osage County line north of Sperry.

The rail line was abandoned in 1998. The company that owns the right-of-way agreed to sell it. Monday, the Tulsa County Commissioners approved the purchase. Commissioner John Selph, "We're talking about a running trail, walking trail, bicycling trail similar to what the Riverparks has." The county will pay about $25,000 for the land.

Commissioners hope federal grants will help pay for the development of the trail itself. The whole process could take several years.
