EDMOND, Okla. (AP) _ Police arrested a man Sunday after he told them he had killed his mother in Louisiana.

Billy Lynn Hendricks, 40, of Shreveport, La., was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint, police spokeswoman Glynda Chu said.

Hendricks said he and his mother got into an argument Saturday night, and that he became angry when she took a swing at him.

Hendricks told police began choking her, but then he passed out, Chu said. When he came to, his mother was unconscious.

He told police he tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation to revive his mother, but when he realized she was dead, he panicked and drove to his adoptive parents' home in Edmond, Chu said.

Police said he told his adoptive parents and they urged him to surrender.

Edmond police were called and Hendricks told his story, Chu said. Then police called Louisiana authorities who went to Hendrick's home and found his mother's body.

The mother's name was not released, nor were the names of Hendricks' adoptive parents.

Hendrick was taken late Sunday to the Oklahoma County jail to await extradition back to Louisiana, Chu said.
