An up close look at the two engines from doomed Flight 587 began Wednesday with a complete teardown.

The engines arrived in Tulsa early Tuesday at American Airlines' maintenance facility - by truck from New York. Investigators have determined both engines fell from the airplane shortly after takeoff - it crashed just a couple of miles from the airport in a neighborhood. The rudder and tail of the airplane also fell off - and investigators believe severe turbulence could have played a role in the failure of the aircraft.

Representatives from the government, the airline and GE, the manufacturer are overseeing the teardown. They expect the job will take about ten days.
