(New York-AP) -- Scott Brosius is retiring from major league baseball.

The 1998 World Series MVP announced his decision in a conference call Tuesday.

The 35-year-old became a free agent after the New York Yankees lost to Arizona in the World Series but apparently doesn't want to play for any other team.

The Yankees are grooming Drew Henson to take over at third base next season and have little interest in re-signing Brosius.

Brosius went to the World Series in all four years he was with New York.

He previously played seven seasons with Oakland and is a .257 career hitter.
