More people across the country need a helping hand to fill their stomachs. The number of people who can't afford to feed themselves has jumped 9% during the past year. And charities say the need has grown even more since September 11th.

Six in Your Corner reporter Diane White has been tracking the hunger problem in Northeastern Oklahoma and says the problem in the Tulsa area follows the same pattern as the rest of the country. More people need help; they just can't afford to pay for all of their food.

More than 400 agencies throughout Northeastern Oklahoma work to ensure no one goes hungry. The Tulsa Community Food Bank provides much of the food to these groups. They in turn provide free food - including hot lunches to people who need help making ends meet. Tulsa resident, Anna Grogan, "It's helped me out a whole bunch. It's really decent food.â€ Karen Senger with the Tulsa Community Food Bank: "There are hungry people here in Oklahoma - in Eastern Oklahoma and it's actually on the rise and we want to let people know we still do need their support."
