A 9-year old boy died after being shot by his 13-year-old friend. The shooting happened in New Prue, just 30 minutes west of Tulsa, while kids in the town were preparing for early Halloween trick or treating.
News on Six reporter Heather Brooker was in New Prue and talked with friends of the boy. Osage County sheriff's investigators say the two boys were home alone, playing in a room with more than one firearm left out in the open. The boy killed was 9-year old Devin Mitchell.
One of his best friends tells us that Devin was always afraid of guns. He says he can't believe something like this would happen to his friend, and he wishes he could talk to him one last time. Shawn Allen: Victim's Friend: "I miss him and I wish he would've stopped his friend from touching that gun."
Police are investigating whether the shooting was accidental or intentional. The 13-year-old boy is in juvenile detention in Osage County.
