MIAMI, Okla. (AP) _ A Wyandotte man has accepted a plea that would sentence him to life in prison in the murder of his girlfriend's baby.
Jason Robbins, 22, accepted the plea Wednesday in the death of 18-month-old Destiny J. Willoughby, said Fred DeMier, first assistant district attorney. Robbins will have to serve 85 percent of the sentence, DeMier said.
The statute requires a pre-sentencing hearing before Robbins is sentenced, DeMier said.
Authorities were called Oct. 6, 2000, to the rural Wyandotte home where Robbins and Crystal Martin. They were advised that the child had fallen from a couch, police reports show.
Destiny died the next morning. Doctors at the Springfield, Mo., hospital where she was flown sent reports indicating the child's injuries were consistent with abuse.
Robbins admitted hitting the child, telling authorities she ``gave him that look,'' an affidavit said.
The state charged Martin with permitting the abuse in the case. She was not home at the time of the girl's death, but prosecutors allege she was aware of the abuse.
Martin is scheduled to go to trial on Monday.
