OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Albert Ashwood, director of the Oklahoma Department of Civil Emergency Management, is heading to New York to help with ongoing rescue efforts.

Ashwood will serve as a watch commander at the site where the World Trade Center once stood.

``His considerable ability and experience is certain to be a tremendous resource for New York during this difficult and grueling time,'' Gov. Frank Keating said Monday.

Ashwood was appointed to the state post in 1997. As deputy director in 1995, he was heavily involved in recovery efforts after the bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building.

Keating said he received a call about recovery efforts in Washington and New York over the weekend from Joe Allbaugh, Federal Emergency Management Agency director. Allbaugh is a native of Oklahoma.

While in New York, Ashwood will assess what Oklahoma resources might be used in the recovery.
