(Norman-AP) -- The University of Oklahoma baseball team has started its off-season practice in preparation for the 2002 season.

The Sooners will have a new look this season with 20 newcomers on the team. Eleven letter-winners will return to the Sooners, but the team loses 14 from the 2001 team.

Of the losses, two -- Jason Bartlett and Chris Haggard -- were drafted in last year's Major League Baseball Draft.

O-U head coach Larry Cochell says he's excited about the new student-athletes and how they're going to affect the program.

Cochell says the coaching staff does a lot of teaching during the first week of practice. he says much of the work is on fundamentals.
